Description

A round wall mirror, 90cm by 90cm, in antique silver. A round form has no corners, so it reads as softer than a square of the same width and settles more easily into a space where straight lines already dominate. At 90cm wide it is wider than a standard interior door. A mirror does most for a room when it faces something worth doubling — a window, a lamp, a view down a hallway. Opposite a blank wall it only doubles the blank wall.

Polished cool metals show every fingerprint, which is the trade for the brightness. A brushed version of the same finish hides them almost entirely and still catches the light along the grain. The swirl is worked into the frame rather than applied to it, so the pattern catches light along its curves and changes as you move past. It reads as decorative from a distance and as craft up close.

It hangs on a keyhole. Two things make a keyhole fixing straightforward: mark the screw position from the plate rather than from a tape measure, and leave the screw head standing far enough proud that the plate drops fully over it. At this weight the screw wants an anchor rather than a plug. It hangs horizontally as well as vertically, so it suits either wall. It weighs 6kg.

There is nothing delicate about it. The finish takes a wipe, there is no crevice collecting dust and no fabric to mark, which is the practical case for it in a room that actually gets used.
