Description

The Amboriala LED candle takes the shape of a classic pillar, with white at the top fading into a textured metallic gold around the lower half. It is made from wax and plastic, stands 10cm tall and 7.5cm across, and weighs just 0.18KG, so it fits easily on a narrow shelf or among a few other pieces on a sideboard. The top is recessed, as if the candle had already burned down a little, with a small dark wick shape at the centre. Inside is an integrated LED with a flicker effect, giving a soft, moving glow much like a candle flame. Keep it indoors, in a dry room.

We like it on a mantelpiece, a bookshelf, a bedside table or the middle of a dining table: anywhere you want the look of candlelight without matches or melted wax. The white and gold finish sits happily in a warm, festive scheme and just as well in a quieter, neutral room, because the white keeps the gold from feeling heavy. With nothing to light, it is an easy choice for a hallway console or a shelf you pass every evening, and the textured surface looks good switched off as well as glowing.

It runs on two AA (LR6) batteries and has a simple on/off switch. The built-in timer is the most useful part: switch it on when you want it to glow and it stays lit for 5 hours, then switches off for 19 hours, so it comes back on at the same time the next day without you touching it. Wax softens in heat, so keep the candle away from a radiator, a stove or a sunny windowsill. Keep a spare pair of AA batteries in a drawer and it will be ready whenever you need it.
