Description
This stoneware teapot brings Alice in Wonderland to the tea table, with Alice and the Mad Hatter printed in soft light blue on a warm beige body. The decal illustrations run around both sides: Alice stands lost in thought, the Mad Hatter grins beneath his hat with its 10/6 tag, and little teacups, flowers and a butterfly drift between them. Above the scenes, a band of raised roses and leaves trails around the shoulder beneath a gently scalloped rim. The lid, the curled handle and the footed base are light blue, and the lid is finished with a beige bow that serves as its knob. It stands 16cm tall and 16cm deep.
Holding 980ml, it is a generous pot for sharing, whether that means a weekday brew at the kitchen table or a slow weekend afternoon tea. Between pots it looks just as at home on an open shelf, a dresser or a kitchen counter, where the pale beige and light blue sit comfortably beside cream, white and pastel china. The storybook scenes make it a natural centrepiece for a themed tea party, and the familiar characters give a simple pot of tea a little sense of occasion.
The teapot is made from stoneware, with the illustrations applied as decals, and the raised rose border adds a texture you can feel under your fingers. The lid lifts off fully, so it is easy to add loose tea or tea bags and to rinse the pot out afterwards. We suggest washing it by hand in warm, soapy water and drying it with a soft cloth, taking a little care around the printed scenes and the raised roses. Pair it with plain cream cups so the illustrations take centre stage, or wrap it with a packet of good loose-leaf tea for a gift that is ready to use from the very first pot.
