Description

The Alemdina is a 15 light pendant made as a cascade of clear glass rods. Each drop is finished with a chrome cylinder and hung on its own fine suspension from a round chrome canopy. The drops fall at staggered heights, so the glass gathers into a loose cone that narrows towards a single lowest point. It stands 150cm tall overall and 50cm across, with a steel body in chrome and textured clear glass that catches and scatters the light. Each of the 15 lights is an integrated 2.6W LED giving 246lm, so there are no bulbs to buy or replace. It is rated IP20, which settles where it goes: indoors, in a dry room.

With a 150cm overall height and a 50cm spread, it needs a room with some height to give. It is at its best hung over a dining table, where the glass becomes the centrepiece of the room. A hall or landing with a generous ceiling height suits it too. The three colour temperatures let you match the light to the space. 2200K gives a deep, candle-like glow for evening meals, 3000K is a familiar warm white, and 4000K is a crisper, cooler white that shows the glass at its clearest. Because the setting is chosen at the light itself, you set the mood to suit the room, and the wall switch does the rest.

The steel body carries a chrome finish that matches the cylinder ends, so the canopy and the drops read as one piece. It has no switch of its own and is not dimmable, so it works from an ordinary wall switch rather than a dimmer. It runs on 220-240V mains and weighs 9.03KG packed, which is worth knowing when you plan the fitting. As a wired-in ceiling light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download.
