The opal glass diffuses light evenly across the ceiling plane and down into the room, avoiding the harsh shadows and glare typical of exposed-bulb fittings. The 219mm total projection from the ceiling makes it suitable for rooms with low ceilings where pendant drops would intrude on headroom.

Designed for hallways, landings, bathrooms, utility rooms and compact bedrooms, the Albers provides general ambient lighting without visual complexity. The matt black canopy creates a defined edge against white or light-toned ceilings and pairs with black door hardware, window frames and electrical accessories common in contemporary UK interiors. The flush-mount format sits entirely within the ceiling void, requiring only a standard UK ceiling rose connection and leaving the full ceiling height intact.

The opal glass is a smooth, non-textured spherical shade approximately 200mm in diameter, proportioned to balance visual presence with physical compactness. The matt black finish on the canopy resists fingerprints and dust accumulation better than gloss finishes and softens reflections under daylight. What ceiling height is needed for this fitting?

The Albers projects 219mm from the ceiling to the bottom of the glass globe. It suits standard UK ceiling heights of 2.3m and above, and works particularly well in low-ceiling spaces where pendant lights would reduce usable headroom.

What bulb should I use?

The fitting takes a standard E27 bulb up to 40W (sold separately). Most users pair this with an 8-12W LED in 2700K-3000K warm white for general ambient lighting. The opal glass diffuses the bulb shape, so visible-filament decorative bulbs offer no advantage here.

Can this be used in bathrooms?

The Albers does not carry an IP rating and is designed for dry interior use only. It can be used in bathrooms outside of defined electrical safety zones (typically 60cm+ from showers, baths and basins), but consult a qualified electrician to confirm placement complies with current UK Building Regulations Part P.

Is the black finish prone to showing dust?

The matt black canopy shows less dust and fewer fingerprints than gloss finishes. Occasional wiping with a dry microfibre cloth keeps the canopy clean. The opal glass can be wiped with a barely-damp cloth when the fitting is switched off and cool.
