Description

The Alaska is a 640mm 6-light chandelier with six faceted glass shades mounted on an antique brass geometric frame. Each shade combines frosted and clear glass layers in an angular profile, with the frosted section diffusing the light and the clear edges catching reflections from the bulb. The frame extends asymmetrically from a central ceiling canopy, with the six arms arranged at varying angles and distances to create a structured but non-symmetrical composition.

Designed for dining rooms, living spaces and entrance halls with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above, the Alaska functions as both a chandelier and a semi-flush fitting depending on how much of the adjustable drop is used. The minimum 480mm drop positions the fitting closer to the ceiling for lower rooms, while the full 770mm drop suits taller spaces or positions above dining tables where the fitting needs to sit lower. The 640mm diameter spreads light across a 3-4m table or seating area without overwhelming smaller rooms.

The antique brass finish shows a darker, aged tone compared to polished or brushed brass, with subtle variations in colour across the metal surface that give the frame a more traditional character. The faceted glass shades refract light through their angular cuts, casting patterned shadows and highlights onto nearby walls and ceilings when the lamps are on. The combined weight of 3.8kg requires secure ceiling fixing into a joist or ceiling rose rated for the load. The fitting includes six GU10 CFL bulbs at 2700K warm white, delivering 54W total power consumption across the six lamps.

Can the Alaska be used as a semi-flush fitting?

Yes. The adjustable drop allows the fitting to be installed at a minimum 480mm from the ceiling, which positions it as a semi-flush light suitable for rooms with lower ceilings. The full 770mm drop extends it into chandelier territory for taller spaces or above-table positioning.

Are the bulbs included?

Yes. The Alaska includes six GU10 CFL bulbs rated at 2700K warm white. These are energy-saving compact fluorescent lamps rather than LEDs or halogens.

Is the Alaska dimmable?

No. The included CFL bulbs are non-dimmable. Replacing them with dimmable GU10 LEDs will not make the fitting dimmable unless the lighting circuit is also fitted with a compatible dimmer switch.

What ceiling height is needed?

For a semi-flush installation at the minimum 480mm drop, ceiling heights of 2.4m work comfortably. For the full 770mm drop above a dining table, ceiling heights of 2.6m or above are recommended to maintain adequate headroom below the fitting.
