The Alaska is a 49cm 4-light chandelier from Mantra with four faceted glass shades mounted on an antique brass frame that arranges them in a pinwheel configuration around a central hub. Each shade pairs a frosted interior with a clear faceted exterior, refracting light through geometric cuts while the frosted layer softens glare from the bulbs inside. The fitting mounts either as a semi-flush ceiling light with a 290mm drop or as a pendant with an adjustable drop between 490mm and 770mm.

Designed for dining rooms, entrance halls and bedroom ceilings with heights between 2.4m and 3m, the Alaska provides ambient and decorative light without dominating the room. The four GU10 bulbs (included) sit inside the shades rather than on display, so the light effect depends on the shade geometry rather than visible filaments or LED arrays. The antique brass finish shows deliberate tarnish and tonal variation across the metalwork, giving a warmer, older appearance than polished brass.

The Alaska's dual-mount capability means it can be fitted close to the ceiling in rooms with lower headroom or dropped on the rod in taller spaces. The 490mm diameter suits ceiling areas between 3m² and 5m² without overwhelming smaller rooms or disappearing in larger ones. At 3.5kg the fitting requires secure ceiling fixings but remains light enough for plasterboard ceilings with appropriate toggles or cavity fixings.

Can it be used as both a chandelier and semi-flush fitting?

Yes. The Alaska includes components for both mounting configurations. As a semi-flush it sits 290mm below the ceiling. As a pendant the drop is adjustable between 490mm and 770mm depending on ceiling height and the desired position over a dining table or in an entrance hall.

Are the bulbs included?

Yes. The fitting includes four GU10 bulbs rated at 2700K warm white with a combined 36W consumption. The bulbs are not user-replaceable with standard GU10s — replacement bulbs must match the L1/SGU10 specification from Mantra.

Is the Alaska dimmable?

No. The included bulbs are not compatible with dimmer switches. Fitting a dimmer to this circuit will either prevent the bulbs from illuminating or cause flickering.

What ceiling height is needed?

As a semi-flush the 290mm drop works in rooms with ceiling heights from 2.4m upwards. As a pendant, ceiling heights of 2.7m or above allow the fitting to be dropped to a useful position over a dining table (typically 700-800mm above the table surface) without the top of the fitting sitting too close to the ceiling rose.
