Description

The Ahrendale is a 254mm wall light built around a cylindrical wire mesh cage in anvil iron finish, enclosing a vetro mica glass diffuser with vertical wood strips along each side. The cage creates a grid pattern that casts shadows across walls when lit, while the mica glass inside softens the light from a single E14 bulb (sold separately, up to 40W). The wood strips add warmth and texture to the predominantly metal construction.

Designed for hallways, bedroom reading positions and living room accent lighting, the Ahrendale provides ambient rather than task light. The 95mm projection from the wall means it sits clear of door frames and picture rails without dominating narrow corridors. The dual-layer construction (outer cage, inner glass) gives depth to the fitting and creates visual interest from different viewing angles as the mesh pattern overlaps the wood grain.

The anvil iron finish shows deliberate texture and grain, presenting as aged metalwork rather than smooth painted steel. The wood strips are cut to follow the curve of the cylindrical shade and are held in place by decorative rivets that match the metal frame. The vetro mica glass has a pale cream tone with subtle mineral variation, so the diffuser appears warmer when lit than when switched off. At 191mm wide the fitting suits standard stud spacing and can be mounted on a single-gang back box.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does it take?

The Ahrendale takes a single E14 (small Edison screw) bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED candle bulb between 4-6W and 2700K for softer ambient light that suits the rustic aesthetic.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

The specification table does not list an IP rating, so the Ahrendale is designed for dry indoor use only. It is not suitable for bathrooms, covered outdoor areas or any location where moisture or spray is present.

How is it fitted to the wall?

The wall plate mounts to a standard single-gang electrical back box using two screws. The fitting itself then attaches to the wall plate. A qualified electrician should carry out installation to ensure safe connection to mains wiring.

What style interiors does it suit?

The combination of anvil iron metalwork, wood accents and mica glass pairs well with rustic farmhouse, industrial and transitional interiors. The textured metal finish and natural materials sit comfortably alongside exposed brick, reclaimed wood and neutral colour palettes.
