Description

The trim here is polished chrome, bright enough to read as a small piece of metalwork in the ceiling rather than a plain pale circle. It is a fire rated downlight sized for a 68mm cut-out, and the lamp holder is fixed, so light falls straight down in a clean cone rather than being aimed off to one side. It runs on a GU10 lamp of up to 50W, and we would choose an LED reflector for it and leave it alone. Dimming works where the lamp fitted is a dimmable type.

Fixed downlights of this sort earn their keep in numbers, set out in a run down a hallway, across a landing ceiling or over a kitchen floor where you want light on the worktops and the walls left quiet. This one is for dry rooms, and the range also runs to an IP65 version we keep for bathroom and shower room ceilings. The chrome ring is worth choosing where the room already has bright metal in it, such as chrome taps, handles or appliance fronts, and it holds its own against a darker painted ceiling.

The bezel is finished evenly and smoothly, with no visible fixings on the face once it is in place. Polished chrome does show fingerprints and water spots, so wait until the lamp has gone cold and then go over the ring with a dry lint-free cloth; skip metal polishes and solvents, which will dull the plating. It carries a three year warranty. We stock the same fixed fitting in white and in satin nickel if you would rather it disappeared into the ceiling, and the range includes adjustable versions, with a wider cut-out, for angling light onto artwork or a splashback. Lamps are not included.
