Description

The Adrados is a pendant ceiling light in which clear glass butterflies hang on fine wires beneath a round black canopy, as if a small flight of them had paused in mid-air. The canopy is steel in a black finish, and the butterflies are made of brilliant glass, clear so that they pick up every glint. It stands 153cm tall and measures 58cm across. Six integrated LED lights of 4.2W each give 500 lumens per light at 3000K, a warm white. It is rated IP20, which settles where it belongs: indoors, in a dry room.

We would hang it where people look up and linger: above a dining table, in a living room with a generous ceiling, or in the open drop of a stairwell or double-height hallway. The 153cm height gives it real presence in a tall space, while the 58cm spread keeps it from crowding a room. Because the light source is integrated LED, there are no bulbs to buy or change. It suits a buyer who wants a light that is a piece of decoration in its own right, as pleasing to look at in daylight as it is in the evening.

The black steel canopy sits against the ceiling and carries the fine wires, so the butterflies hang at different heights and catch the light from different angles. The light is dimmable, and with no switch of its own it is switched at the wall. As a wired mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download. It weighs 7.83KG packed. Clear glass shows dust readily, so a soft, dry cloth every so often keeps the butterflies sparkling. Before ordering, measure your ceiling height and allow for the full 153cm drop.
