Description

Prism-cut crystal sits across a polished chrome backplate, catching whatever light is in the room and scattering small bright points onto the wall around it. It measures 23cm across, so it reads more as jewellery than as a large fitting. One E14 candle lamp sits behind the glass, and a pull switch on the body means it can be worked where it hangs rather than from across the room. We would fit a warm LED candle here and leave it at that.

It suits spots that want a little sparkle without much bulk: either side of a bed, along a hallway, beside a mirror in a dressing area, or flanking a chimney breast in a sitting room. The pull switch earns its keep at a bedside, where fumbling for the main switch in the dark helps nobody. Choose a dimmable lamp if you want the level to drop for late reading, since the dimming is done by the lamp rather than the fitting. Keep it to dry rooms, well away from steam and splashes.

The chrome is polished to a bright mirror, and the crystal is faceted so the piece stays lively even with the lamp off. Dust dulls cut glass faster than anything else, so once the power is off and the glass has cooled, run a dry lint-free cloth over the facets now and then; leave polishes and sprays alone, as they settle into the cuts and leave a film.
