Abacus 2 Light Switched Picture Light 35cm 4000K - Antique Brass

The shorter Abacus, at 35cm wide, wears an antique brass finish with the softened, faintly aged tone the name promises. A pair of G9 capsules does the work, and the light they give is 4000K cool white, crisp and clean rather than buttery. A toggle switch on the body lets you work it by hand where you are standing. It stands a little way off the wall, which is what puts the light onto the surface below rather than back onto the wall itself. The lamps come with it, so there is nothing else to buy before it will light.

The cool white output picks out detail and keeps pale tones looking pale, which suits prints, maps and anything with fine line work in it. It dims with a compatible dimmer, so the level can be dropped in the evening, though the dimmer itself is a separate buy. Keep it to rooms that stay dry: halls, studies, sitting rooms and bedrooms.

The antique brass reads evenly across the body and is forgiving of fingerprints in a way polished brass never is. Dusting is all it asks, with a clean dry cloth over the surface once the power is off and the capsules are cold, and no polish or spray, which would only dull the finish. It carries a one year warranty. What lamps does it take, and are they included?

It takes two G9 capsules and they are supplied, so it will light straight away. Replacements should be G9 LED capsules of no more than 33W each.

How far does it come off the wall?

Projection is 220mm, with a width of 350mm and a height of 125mm, so it sits proud enough to cast light down over a picture below.

Can I dim it?

Yes, with a dimmer suited to LED loads. No dimmer is supplied with the light, so that is chosen separately.

Does it need its own wall switch?

Not necessarily. A toggle switch is fitted to the body, so it can be switched at the light itself.

What colour is the light?

4000K cool white, a clear neutral white rather than a warm yellow. If you prefer something softer, the 35cm size is also made in 2700K.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which means dry indoor rooms only.
