Description

Sometimes a picture wants a light of its own rather than a lamp aimed vaguely in its direction. This is a slim horizontal fitting in satin nickel, 35cm across, with a projection that carries the light out over the top of a frame and a toggle switch on the body so it can be worked by hand. Two G9 capsules sit within the housing and give a warm white 2700K light, and the fitting dims when it is run from a compatible dimmer. Lamps are supplied.

We would put this above a framed print, an oil or a short run of photographs where the artwork is modest in width, and it does just as well over a mirror, a shelf of books or a stretch of panelling along a hallway. Warm white keeps skin tones and old varnish looking friendly rather than clinical, which is why it sits happily in sitting rooms, dining rooms, studies and bedrooms. Turned down on a dimmer it settles to a low glow, handy on a landing at night.

Satin nickel gives a soft sheen that picks up light without bouncing glare back onto the picture, and the shape is plain enough to disappear once the eye goes to the artwork. To keep it looking right, switch off at the wall and run a dry, lint free cloth along the upper edge where dust gathers; nothing damp, and no polish on the finish. This is a fitting for dry rooms indoors, so keep it away from bathrooms and open porches. It carries a one year warranty.
