Description
The Knightsbridge SUR5LEDIG is a 1500mm suspended LED batten delivering both direct downlight and indirect uplight through an integrated 55W SMD LED array and opal diffuser. The grey pressed steel housing measures 200mm wide by 45mm deep, suspended on twin cables with a 2-metre suspension kit supplied. The upward component washes the ceiling with reflected light while the downward output provides task illumination, combining to deliver 4800lm to the room at a cool white 4000K colour temperature.
Designed for commercial environments including offices, studios, classrooms and retail spaces, the dual output reduces the contrast between ceiling and workspace, minimising eye strain during extended work periods. The fitting suits open-plan layouts where fluorescent tube battens are being replaced with LED equivalents, and the 1500mm length aligns with standard 1.5m desk and table modules. Push-fit loop-in/loop-out terminals allow multiple fittings to be linked in a continuous run without junction boxes, simplifying installation over large floor areas.
The pressed steel construction provides rigidity along the 1.5m span without excessive weight, and the grey powder-coated finish integrates into industrial, commercial and modern interiors where exposed services and minimal detailing are preferred. The opal polypropylene diffuser softens the LED point sources into a continuous luminous surface, eliminating visible diodes and reducing glare on computer screens. At 50,000-hour L70B50 rated life, the LED array retains 70% of its initial output after approximately 11 years of continuous use, reducing maintenance cycles in high-ceiling commercial installations.
The non-dimmable driver operates on 230V 50Hz mains with Class I earthing, requiring a standard three-core mains cable. The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor environments only — this fitting is not suitable for damp locations, bathrooms, or outdoor canopies. The 110-degree beam angle from the downward component provides wide, even coverage beneath the fitting, while the upward component's output depends on ceiling height and reflectance — white ceilings at 2.4-3m height reflect the most useful ambient contribution.

Frequently Asked
What's the difference between direct and indirect lighting?
This fitting emits light both downwards (direct) onto the workspace and upwards (indirect) onto the ceiling. The upward component reflects off the ceiling to provide ambient fill light, reducing the contrast between bright task areas and darker surroundings. This combination reduces eye strain in office and studio environments where occupants spend extended periods under artificial light.
Can it be dimmed?
No. The constant current driver is non-dimmable and operates at fixed output on standard 230V mains. If dimming is required, consider Knightsbridge's dimmable modular range or use a separate dimming control system compatible with non-dim LED drivers.
How many fittings are needed for a typical office?
Each fitting delivers 4800lm to the room. General office lighting typically requires 300-500 lux at desk height. For a 4m x 6m office (24m²), two or three of these fittings in a parallel run would typically provide adequate illumination, but exact requirements depend on ceiling height, surface reflectance and task requirements. Consult a lighting designer for commercial installations.
What ceiling height is suitable?
The fitting works in commercial spaces with ceiling heights between 2.4m and 4m. Below 2.4m the direct output may feel too bright without dimming; above 4m the indirect component's contribution diminishes significantly and multiple fittings or higher-output models may be needed to achieve required lux levels.
