Description

Five shades hang in a loose cluster from a round plate 45cm across, each drawn in at the neck like the bowl of a wine glass and mixed across amber, clear and smoke tints. Antique gold on the plate and the suspensions warms those tints rather than competing with them. Every drop adjusts independently, so the shades can sit level in a neat ring or be staggered at stepped heights for something looser.

It suits a long dining table, a kitchen island or a wide stairwell where there is height to play with, and it gives five small pools of light rather than a broad single wash. We reach for it in rooms where one large shade would look heavy overhead. Each holder takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, and we would pick LED lamps to suit whichever tint you are looking through; the clear shades show a filament, while the amber and smoke soften it. Dimming is possible with suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer.

The shades hang on adjustable suspensions from the round plate, with the antique gold finish carried across the frame above them. Keep a dry, soft cloth for the tinted surfaces, with the power off and the lamps cool first, and leave sprays and scouring pads well alone. It is rated for dry rooms indoors, so it is not one for a bathroom or a covered porch. The wine shade also appears in the range on a single light flush fitting, offered there with a polished chrome frame as well if gold is not your finish. It carries a one year warranty. Lamps are not included.
