Description

Five slim curved trapezium shades in amber and smoke ring a round antique gold frame, 45cm across, each one tapering to a narrow neck so the group reads as light and open rather than heavy. The shades are set at a shallow curve, giving the fitting width without much bulk. The drop is adjustable across a long span at set-up, so it can sit fairly high or fall well down where there is room for it.

Over a dining table it works particularly well, since the spread of shades follows the length of the top and the warm amber softens the light before it reaches the room. It is equally at home above a kitchen island, in a wide hallway, or dropped into a stairwell where the ceiling gives it space. Each shade takes an E27 lamp up to 20W, and we would choose warm white LED globes here so the colour in the glass stays true. It will dim, though the right lamps and a compatible dimmer are needed for that and neither comes with it.

The antique gold has a slightly aged, low sheen that keeps the metalwork from looking too bright against the tinted shades, and it carries a one year warranty. For upkeep, a dry microfibre cloth over the shades is usually all that is wanted; marks on the gold come away with a barely damp cloth, dried at once, and only with the power off and the lamps cool. Keep it to dry indoor rooms, away from bathrooms and anywhere it might catch weather. If you like the shape but need something closer to the ceiling, the same slim curved trapezium shades appear on a single flush fitting elsewhere in the range, which also runs to polished chrome. Lamps are not included.
