Description

The Knightsbridge SURF418EMHF is a 610mm x 600mm surface-mounted fluorescent fitting housing four 18W T8 tubes (sold separately) behind a CAT2 louvre grid. The fitting includes integrated emergency backup providing 3-hour maintained or non-maintained operation during mains failure, with the emergency module switchable between modes on installation.

Designed for commercial offices, retail back-of-house areas, plant rooms and public corridors where Building Regulations require both functional lighting and emergency provision, the CAT2 louvre controls light distribution to reduce screen glare and ceiling reflection. The 80mm projection from ceiling allows surface mounting onto plasterboard, concrete or suspended ceiling grids without recessing. The IP20 rating limits use to dry interior locations protected from moisture ingress.

The white steel body measures 610mm along the lamp axis and 600mm across, giving a near-square footprint that suits 600mm modular ceiling grids commonly used in commercial fit-outs. The Class I earthed construction requires connection to building earth and the fitting operates on standard 230V 50Hz mains. The emergency battery charges continuously during normal operation and activates automatically when mains voltage drops, maintaining illumination for safe egress. Lamps must be purchased separately — the fitting accepts standard 18W 600mm T8 fluorescent tubes with G13 bi-pin bases.

What lamps does this fitting require?

The fitting takes four 18W T8 fluorescent tubes with G13 bi-pin bases, each 600mm long. Lamps are sold separately. Common options include cool white (4000K) or warm white (3000K) tubes depending on application.

What's the difference between maintained and non-maintained emergency modes?

In maintained mode the emergency lamps stay on continuously during normal and emergency operation. In non-maintained mode they only illuminate during mains failure. The mode is selected by the installer via a switch inside the fitting before commissioning.

Can this be installed in bathrooms or damp locations?

No. The IP20 rating means the fitting is not protected against moisture ingress and must only be installed in dry interior locations away from direct water exposure or high humidity.

How long does the emergency battery last?

The integrated battery provides 3 hours of emergency illumination when fully charged. The battery charges automatically whenever mains power is connected. Note that the battery is excluded from the 1-year warranty and is considered a consumable component.
