Description

The Knightsbridge 47mm single dry lining box is a white PVC mounting box for installing switches, sockets and other electrical accessories into plasterboard cavity walls. The box sits behind the plasterboard with a 47mm recessed depth, providing clearance for standard switch and socket back plates without protruding into the cavity space.

Designed for new-build residential and commercial installations where walls are dry-lined with plasterboard over a timber or metal stud frame, the box fixes directly to the plasterboard using red plastic grip lugs that expand against the back of the board when the accessory is screwed in. The 83mm square face matches standard UK electrical accessory sizes, and the 73mm cut-out dimension allows the box to drop into a hole cut with a standard dry-lining saw or hole cutter.

Cable entry is accommodated by moulded channels at the top and bottom edges of the box, plus a 20mm knockout at the rear for direct conduit or cable runs through the cavity. The white PVC construction is certified to BS 5733, the British Standard for general purpose cable management boxes, and the box carries a 25-year warranty. The red grip lugs visible in the product image lock the box securely to plasterboard between 9.5mm and 12.5mm thick.

Frequently Asked

What plasterboard thickness does it suit?

The grip lugs are designed for plasterboard between 9.5mm and 12.5mm thick, which covers standard UK residential plasterboard. Thicker or thinner boards may not provide a secure grip.

What size hole is needed in the plasterboard?

A 73mm x 73mm square cut-out is required. This can be cut with a dry-lining saw, a hole cutter, or a jigsaw with a plasterboard blade. The box drops into the hole and the red lugs grip the back of the board when the accessory is screwed in.

Is it suitable for masonry walls?

No. This box is designed specifically for dry-lined cavity walls with plasterboard over a stud frame. For masonry walls, use a metal or plastic pattress box fixed with wall plugs and screws.

How are cables fed into the box?

Cables can enter through moulded channels at the top and bottom edges of the box, or through the 20mm knockout at the rear for conduit runs or direct cable entry from the cavity.
