Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP switch is a double-pole isolator with a neon indicator and a red rocker set into a white square edge faceplate. The 45A rating makes it suitable for cooker circuits, electric showers and other high-load appliances requiring isolation at the point of use. The neon indicator glows when the switch is in the on position, providing clear visual confirmation that the circuit is live.

Designed for kitchens, utility rooms and bathrooms where high-draw appliances need local isolation, the switch provides double-pole switching that isolates both live and neutral lines when turned off. The 86mm square faceplate fits a standard UK 1-gang mounting box with a minimum back box depth of 47mm. The red rocker contrasts against the white plate, making the switch easy to locate in low light and reducing the chance of accidentally leaving the circuit on.

The faceplate is moulded from thermoset resin with anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial growth on the surface in environments where hygiene matters. The 9mm square edge profile sits flat against the wall with minimal projection, and the included screw cap covers hide the fixing screws once installed. The switch carries a 25-year warranty and is certified to EN 60669-1 for safety and durability.

Frequently Asked

What appliances is a 45A switch used for?

The 45A rating suits cooker circuits, electric showers, instantaneous water heaters and other fixed high-load appliances that draw between 32A and 45A. It provides local isolation for maintenance or emergency shut-off without needing to access the consumer unit.

What does double-pole switching mean?

Double-pole switching isolates both the live and neutral lines when the switch is turned off, providing complete circuit isolation. This is safer than single-pole switching for high-load appliances and is required by UK wiring regulations for certain installations.

What is the neon indicator for?

The neon glows when the switch is in the on position, confirming that the circuit is live. This prevents accidentally leaving high-draw appliances powered when not in use and provides clear visual feedback in low light.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating means the switch is suitable for indoor dry locations. For bathrooms, the switch must be installed outside zones 0, 1 and 2 as defined by BS 7671 wiring regulations, typically outside the bathroom itself or in a position that complies with zone placement rules.
