Description

The Knightsbridge M8331N is a 45A double-pole switch with a neon indicator, housed in a single-gang metal clad box measuring 82mm square with 45mm projection. The switch is built from premium-grade powder-coated steel and rated for 230V 50Hz mains. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when turned off, providing isolation for high-draw appliances such as cookers, ovens and large water heaters.

Designed for utility rooms, garages, workshops and commercial kitchens where robust switching is needed in environments that see moisture, dust or mechanical impact, the metal housing provides Class I earthed protection and an IP20 rating suitable for indoor dry locations. The switch comes complete with an integral steel back box, so no separate mounting box is required during installation. The red rocker shows clear ON/OFF positions, and the neon indicator at the top of the faceplate glows when the circuit is live.

The powder-coated finish resists scratches, knocks and corrosion better than standard plastic faceplates, making the switch suitable for high-traffic utility areas and commercial settings. Screw terminals accept cable up to 10mm² and the earth terminal is clearly marked. The switch is certified to EN 60669-1 and carries Knightsbridge's 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What appliances is a 45A switch used for?

A 45A double-pole switch is typically used to isolate electric cookers, ovens, hobs and large instantaneous water heaters. It provides a safe means of switching off these high-draw appliances without having to isolate at the consumer unit.

Does this need a separate back box?

No. The M8331N is supplied complete with an integral steel back box, so no separate mounting box is required. The unit surface-mounts directly onto the wall or into a cut-out, with the back box forming part of the switch housing.

What does the neon indicator show?

The neon glows when the circuit is live, indicating that power is available at the switch. When the rocker is in the OFF position, the neon still glows if mains voltage is present at the supply terminals, confirming the circuit is live even when the load is isolated.

Can this be used outdoors or in damp locations?

No. The IP20 rating means the switch is suitable for indoor dry locations only. For damp or outdoor environments, a higher IP-rated enclosure is required.
