Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP switch provides double-pole isolation for cookers and high-draw kitchen appliances, rated at 45 amps on 230V mains. The 2-gang size plate (146.5mm × 85.75mm) fits a standard double-gang back box and includes a red neon indicator that illuminates when the switch is in the on position. The brushed chrome faceplate has a rounded edge profile and a built-in gasket for a flush mount against the wall.

Designed for cooker control and kitchen appliance isolation, the switch allows a cooker or multiple cooking appliances to be isolated from the mains without switching off a breaker at the consumer unit. This makes maintenance, cleaning and servicing safer by providing a visible and accessible isolation point. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral, giving complete circuit isolation when the switch is off. The neon indicator confirms at a glance whether the circuit is live.

The premium-grade steel construction and brushed chrome finish pair with both traditional and contemporary kitchen interiors. The rounded edge plate sits 7.5mm proud of the wall once installed, with the built-in gasket creating a clean seal between the plate and the plaster surface. The switch requires a minimum 47mm back box depth for safe installation. Knightsbridge backs this switch with a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What appliances can this switch control?

The 45A rating handles electric cookers, ranges and induction hobs drawing up to 10,350W at 230V. Multiple lower-rated appliances on the same circuit can also be controlled, provided the combined load does not exceed 45A. Consult a qualified electrician if unsure about circuit loading.

What does double-pole switching mean?

Double-pole (DP) switching isolates both the live and neutral lines when the switch is turned off, providing complete circuit isolation. This is safer than single-pole switching for high-draw appliances and is required by UK wiring regulations for cooker control.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 47mm back box depth is needed for safe installation. The switch projects 7.5mm from the wall once the plate is fitted, so the total depth from the rear of the back box to the front of the plate is approximately 54.5mm.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon illuminates when the switch is in the on position, confirming that the circuit is live. When the switch is off, the neon is dark, providing a visual confirmation that the appliance is isolated.
