Description
The Knightsbridge 45A DP switch is a double-pole cooker control designed to isolate high-draw cooking appliances for safe maintenance and servicing. The switch features a red neon indicator that glows when the circuit is live, and fits a 2-gang mounting box despite controlling only a single 45A circuit. The brushed chrome flat plate has a 2.5mm ultra-low projection from the wall and a built-in gasket for a tight seal against the mounting surface.
Installed between the consumer unit and the cooker or hob connection point, the switch provides safe isolation for cleaning, servicing or replacing cooking appliances. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when off, which is required by wiring regulations for fixed high-load appliances rated above 13A. The 45A rating handles total connected cooking loads up to 10,350W on 230V mains, which covers most domestic electric cookers, hobs and range cookers.
The flat plate design uses premium-grade steel finished in brushed chrome, giving a low-sheen metallic surface that resists fingerprints better than polished chrome. The 2.5mm projection keeps the switch nearly flush with the wall, which suits contemporary kitchens where minimal visual interruption is preferred. The red neon indicator sits above the rocker switch and is visible in daylight, confirming at a glance whether the circuit is isolated or live.
The switch requires a 47mm minimum back box depth for safe cable termination and fits standard 2-gang UK mounting boxes. The built-in gasket compresses against the wall or tiled surface on installation, sealing the gap between plate and mounting surface to prevent dust and moisture ingress behind the faceplate. Knightsbridge backs the switch with a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked
What appliances can this switch control?
The 45A rating handles cooking appliances drawing up to 10,350W on 230V mains, which covers most domestic electric cookers, built-in ovens, ceramic or induction hobs, and range cookers. It does not suit larger commercial-grade cooking equipment rated above 45A.
Why does it need a 2-gang mounting box?
The switch uses a 2-gang faceplate despite controlling a single circuit. This is standard for 45A cooker switches, as the larger plate provides space for the rocker mechanism, neon indicator and sufficient terminal clearance for the heavy-gauge cable used on 45A circuits.
What does the neon indicator show?
The red neon glows when the circuit is live, confirming that the appliance is powered and potentially operational. When the switch is in the off position the neon goes dark, indicating safe isolation for servicing or cleaning.
Is this suitable for tiled kitchen walls?
Yes. The built-in gasket compresses against the wall or tile surface on installation, sealing the gap between plate and mounting surface. The flat plate design sits nearly flush with the wall, giving a clean finish on tiled or plastered surfaces.
