Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP cooker control unit combines a double-pole 45A switch for isolating cooking appliances with a 13A switched socket and dual neon indicators. The 45A switch allows a cooker or hob to be isolated for maintenance or cleaning without accessing the consumer unit, while the 13A socket provides a nearby outlet for smaller kitchen appliances such as microwaves, kettles or food processors.

Designed for kitchen installation adjacent to cooking appliances, the unit fits a 47mm minimum back box depth and uses a polished chrome flat plate with a grey insert. The flat plate design projects just 2.5mm from the wall once installed, giving a low-profile finish that sits nearly flush with the plaster. The polished chrome provides a reflective metallic accent that pairs with stainless steel appliances and chrome fixtures commonly found in contemporary kitchens.

Both the 45A switch and the 13A socket carry individual neon indicators that glow red when the respective circuit is live, providing visual confirmation of power status without needing to test with a meter. The double-pole switching on the 45A isolates both live and neutral lines when turned off, providing full isolation rather than just breaking the live conductor. The premium-grade steel construction and 25-year warranty reflect Knightsbridge's focus on longevity in high-use kitchen environments.

Frequently Asked

What back box depth is required for installation?

This unit requires a minimum 47mm back box depth to accommodate the terminals and cable connections behind the faceplate. The flat plate design adds just 2.5mm of projection from the wall surface once installed.

What do the neon indicators show?

The unit has two neon indicators: one on the 45A switch and one on the 13A socket. Each glows red when the respective circuit is live, providing visual confirmation of power status. The neons remain illuminated when the switches are on and the circuits are energised.

Can this control multiple cooking appliances?

Yes. The 45A switch can control two or more cooking appliances in the same room provided the combined load does not exceed the 45A rating (approximately 10,350W at 230V). Typical applications include a cooker plus a hob, or an oven plus a separate grill unit.

What does double-pole switching mean?

Double-pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is turned off, rather than just breaking the live line. This provides full electrical isolation, which is a requirement for fixed cooking appliances under UK wiring regulations and allows safe maintenance without accessing the consumer unit.
