Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP cooker switch combines a 45A double-pole switch with a 13A switched socket and neon indicators behind a polished chrome faceplate with black insert. The 45A switch isolates cooking appliances rated up to 10.35kW on a dedicated cooker circuit, while the 13A socket provides a nearby power outlet for kettles, toasters and other kitchen appliances.

Designed for kitchen installation within 2 metres of the cooker or hob, the unit allows the cooking appliance to be isolated for cleaning, maintenance or emergency shutdown without affecting other circuits. The double-pole switching disconnects both live and neutral lines when off, providing complete isolation. Two neon indicators show power status: one for the 45A circuit and one for the 13A socket, making it clear at a glance which circuits are live.

The polished chrome finish provides a reflective metallic surface that pairs with stainless steel appliances and chrome fixtures in contemporary and traditional kitchens. The black insert behind the chrome faceplate hides the back of the plate and defines the switch and socket apertures. The unit fits a standard 47mm minimum back box depth and the premium-grade steel construction carries a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between 45A and 13A switches?

The 45A switch handles dedicated cooker circuits rated up to 10.35kW and must be wired on a separate circuit from the ring main. The 13A socket is connected to the standard ring main and handles appliances up to 3kW. Both switches can be used independently.

What does double-pole switching mean?

Double-pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is off, providing complete circuit isolation. This is safer than single-pole switching for high-load appliances and is required by UK wiring regulations for cooker circuits.

What do the neon indicators show?

The unit has two neon indicators. One illuminates when the 45A cooker circuit is live, the other when the 13A socket circuit is live. This allows you to confirm power status without testing with a multimeter.

What back box depth is required?

A 47mm minimum back box depth is needed. The faceplate adds 2.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted, giving a total depth of approximately 49.5mm from the wall surface to the front of the plate.
