Description

This Knightsbridge cooker control unit combines a 45A double-pole switch with a 13A switched socket outlet behind a brushed chrome flat plate. Red neon indicators show when each circuit is live, providing a visual confirmation that the cooker circuit is energised and the socket is switched on. The 45A switch isolates both live and neutral conductors, allowing safe disconnection of high-draw appliances like electric cookers, ranges and hobs for maintenance or cleaning.

Installed in kitchens within 2 metres of the cooker or range, the unit provides control over the main cooking appliance via the 45A switch while the 13A socket outlet serves smaller appliances like kettles, blenders or microwaves. The dual neon indicators allow quick visual checks of circuit status without testing with a meter. The unit requires a minimum 47mm back box depth for safe installation and complies with BS 7671 wiring regulations for cooker circuit control.

The premium-grade steel flat plate sits 2.5mm proud of the wall surface, with a brushed chrome finish that reduces fingerprint visibility and pairs well with modern stainless steel appliances. The white insert behind the switches and socket apertures provides contrast against the brushed metal and hides the internal back of the plate. The unit carries IP20 rating for dry indoor use and includes a 25-year manufacturer warranty.

Frequently Asked

What does the 45A rating mean?

The 45A rating indicates the maximum current the switch can safely handle. At 230V this supports cooking appliances drawing up to 10,350W, covering most domestic electric cookers, ranges and hobs. The 13A socket is rated separately at 3,120W maximum load.

Where should this be positioned relative to the cooker?

BS 7671 wiring regulations require cooker switches to be positioned within 2 metres of the appliance, between 600mm and 2000mm above finished floor level, and not directly above the hob where heat and steam could affect the switch. Most installations place the unit to one side of the cooker at worktop height.

What do the neon indicators show?

The red neon next to the 45A switch illuminates when the cooker circuit is energised. The neon next to the 13A socket illuminates when that socket is switched on. Both provide visual confirmation of circuit status without needing to test with a meter.

Can this control multiple cooking appliances?

Yes, provided the combined load does not exceed the 45A rating. For example, a single-oven electric cooker and a separate ceramic hob can share one 45A circuit if the total current draw stays within the limit. Check the nameplates on both appliances before wiring.
