Description

This Knightsbridge cooker control unit combines a 45A double-pole switch with a 13A switched socket and dual neon indicators behind a brushed chrome square-edge faceplate with a black insert. The 45A switch isolates high-power cooking appliances such as electric cookers, ranges or hobs for maintenance or cleaning, whilst the 13A socket provides a switched outlet for smaller kitchen appliances like kettles, microwaves or food processors.

Designed for kitchen installations where the cooker circuit runs nearby and a convenient socket is needed, the unit fits a 47mm minimum back box depth and requires connection to a dedicated 45A cooker circuit via a cooker outlet plate or direct to the consumer unit. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines, providing full circuit isolation rather than just breaking the live conductor. Both switches carry individual neon indicators that glow red when the respective circuit is live, confirming power status without needing to test at the appliance.

The brushed chrome faceplate is constructed from premium-grade steel with a directional brushed finish that resists fingerprints and minor scratches better than polished chrome. The black insert behind the faceplate conceals the back of the cover plate and gives a defined edge to each switch and socket aperture. The square-edge profile sits flush with the wall surface, creating a clean geometric line that suits both contemporary and traditional fitted kitchens. Knightsbridge backs this unit with a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between 45A DP and single-pole switching?

Double-pole (DP) switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is off, providing full circuit isolation. Single-pole switches only break the live conductor. DP switching is required for cooker circuits under UK wiring regulations.

What do the neon indicators show?

Each switch has its own red neon indicator. When the 45A cooker switch is on, the left neon glows to confirm power is live to the cooking appliance. When the 13A socket switch is on, the right neon glows to confirm the socket is live. This allows quick visual confirmation of circuit status without testing at the appliance.

Can this control two separate cooking appliances?

The 45A switch can control one or more cooking appliances on the same circuit provided the combined load does not exceed 45A (10,350W at 230V). Most domestic electric cookers draw 30-40A, so a single cooker or hob is typical. The 13A socket is a separate circuit for smaller appliances.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 47mm back box depth is required for safe installation. The faceplate adds 10.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted, giving a total depth of approximately 57.5mm from the wall surface to the back of the box.
