Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP cooker control unit combines a 45-amp double-pole switch for isolating a cooker circuit with a 13A switched socket for auxiliary appliances, behind an anthracite screwless faceplate. Two red neon indicators show when the 45A and 13A circuits are live, providing visual confirmation of isolation status before maintenance work.

Designed for kitchen installation where Building Regulations require a dedicated cooker isolation switch within 2 metres of the appliance, this unit allows the cooker to be safely isolated without accessing the consumer unit. The 13A socket adds a controlled outlet for smaller kitchen appliances (kettles, microwaves, slow cookers) on the same faceplate, reducing the need for separate socket positions. The double-pole switching on both the 45A and 13A sides isolates both live and neutral lines when off, providing full isolation rather than just breaking the live conductor.

The anthracite finish is a dark grey metallic tone that sits between graphite and matt black, pairing well with contemporary kitchens using darker cabinetry, stainless steel appliances and industrial-style fixtures. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame, hiding all fixings once installed. The 47mm minimum back box depth requirement is deeper than standard single-gang sockets due to the combined 45A and 13A switching mechanisms and neon circuitry housed behind the faceplate.

Frequently Asked

What appliances can be connected to the 45A switch?

The 45A circuit is rated for electric cookers, ovens and hobs drawing up to 10,350W at 230V. It can control a single high-draw appliance or multiple appliances on the same circuit, provided the combined load does not exceed 45A. The 13A socket is rated separately for up to 3,000W.

What do the neon indicators show?

Two red neon indicators illuminate when each circuit is live. The top indicator shows the 45A cooker circuit status, the bottom shows the 13A socket status. When both switches are off, both neons go dark, confirming full isolation before maintenance.

Is this screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The anthracite cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the unit and re-clipped without re-wiring or disturbing the electrical connections.

What back box depth is required?

A 47mm minimum back box depth is required due to the combined switching mechanisms and neon circuitry. Standard 25mm or 35mm single-gang boxes are not deep enough for safe installation of this unit.
