Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP cooker switch with 13A socket combines a double-pole 45A switch rated for fixed cooking appliances with a standard 13A switched socket outlet, both behind a polished chrome flat plate with a white insert. The 45A switch carries neon indicators on both live poles to confirm when the circuit is live, and a third neon on the 13A socket to show when that outlet is switched on.

Designed for kitchens where a cooker, hob or range needs local isolation alongside a standard socket for small appliances (kettle, mixer, radio), this unit allows the high-draw cooking appliance to be switched off during cleaning or maintenance without affecting the socket. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines on the 45A circuit, providing complete isolation rather than single-pole switching. The 13A socket is independently switched and can remain live while the cooker circuit is isolated.

The flat plate design sits just 2.5mm proud of the wall when fitted to a 47mm minimum back box, giving an ultra-low profile that reduces projection into the room compared to traditional raised or curved plates. The polished chrome finish provides a high-gloss reflective surface that pairs well with modern kitchen hardware, and the white insert behind the plate gives a clean aperture definition around the switch rockers and socket outlet. The unit is certified to BS 4177 for cooker control units and BS 1363-2 for socket outlets, with a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What does the 45A switch control?

The 45A double-pole switch isolates the circuit feeding a fixed cooking appliance such as a cooker, hob or range. It allows the appliance to be switched off for cleaning or maintenance without turning off the circuit at the consumer unit. The 13A socket operates independently and remains live even when the 45A switch is off.

What are the neon indicators for?

The unit has three neon indicators: two on the 45A switch (one for each pole) to show when the cooker circuit is live, and one on the 13A socket to show when that outlet is switched on. The neons provide visual confirmation of circuit status without needing a voltage tester.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 47mm back box depth is needed for safe installation. The flat plate adds only 2.5mm projection from the wall once fitted, giving a total depth of approximately 50mm from the mounting surface.

Can this control two cooking appliances?

Yes, provided the combined load does not exceed the 45A rating. A 45A circuit at 230V can handle up to 10,350W, which is sufficient for most domestic cooker-and-hob combinations. Always verify the total load before connecting multiple appliances to one control unit.
