Four wine shaped glass shades hang in a row beneath a slim antique gold bar, and they are not all the same tone: amber, clear and smoke sit together, so the row warms at one point and deepens at another as the light passes through. The bar itself runs 1200mm and stays narrow, reading as a line above a table rather than a solid block. Each shade carries its own E27 lamp of up to 20W, and the suspension is adjustable, hanging close under the ceiling or dropping down low over a surface.

This is a length of light rather than a pool of it, so it suits a long dining table, an island, or a bar counter where one central pendant would leave the ends dim. We reach for it when a room needs the eye drawn along a table instead of into a corner, and we would choose LED lamps with a shape that suits the open glass, since the lamp is visible through the tinted shades. Dimming is possible where both the lamps and the dimmer are chosen for it.

The metalwork has the softened, slightly aged look that antique gold gives, which sits kindly against the honeyed and smoky glass rather than competing with it. The glass shades are the part worth looking after: let them cool fully, then take dust off with a soft cloth, and use nothing abrasive on the tinting. It is an earthed fitting for dry rooms indoors, and it carries a one year warranty. The bar measures 1200mm long and 80mm wide. The drop adjusts from 270mm at its shortest to 2270mm at its longest, so it can sit tight to the ceiling or hang low over a table.

What lamps does it take?

Four E27 lamps, each rated to a maximum of 20W. They are not supplied, so you can pick the shape and colour temperature that suits the tinted glass.

Are the four shades all the same colour?

No. The shades are supplied in amber, clear and smoke, so the row shifts in tone along its length while the metalwork stays antique gold throughout.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and a dimmer matched to them. Neither the lamps nor a dimmer is included.

How should I clean the glass?

Switch the light off and let everything cool, then dust the shades with a soft dry cloth. Avoid abrasive creams and solvents so the amber and smoke tints stay clear.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 and is intended for dry indoor rooms such as kitchens, dining rooms and hallways.
