Description

The Knightsbridge SN8380D is a 35mm deep dual dry lining box designed for mounting 2-gang electrical accessories into plasterboard and cavity walls. The white PVC box measures 169mm wide by 83mm high externally, with a 159x73mm cut-out requirement in the plasterboard. Two red spring-loaded grip flanges clamp the box securely to the reverse side of the plasterboard once pushed through the cut-out aperture.

Designed for residential and light commercial installations where 2-gang switches, sockets or dimmer plates are being fitted into stud walls, the box accepts standard UK wiring accessories without requiring additional back boxes. Two 20mm knockouts at the rear provide cable entry points, while moulded channels at the top and bottom edges guide cables neatly into position during installation. The 35mm depth accommodates most standard accessories and provides enough space for cable terminations behind deeper switches and dimmers.

The PVC construction is certified to BS 5733, the UK standard for electrical accessory boxes in non-metallic enclosures. The white finish blends with standard white plasterboard once the faceplate is fitted. The box ships in shrink-sealed Knightsbridge multipacks, with each unit individually protected during storage and transit. The 25-year warranty covers manufacturing defects and material failure under normal domestic use.

Frequently Asked

What plasterboard thickness does this box support?

The spring-loaded grip flanges accommodate standard UK plasterboard thicknesses from 9.5mm to 12.5mm. The flanges clamp against the reverse side of the plasterboard once the box is pushed through the cut-out aperture.

What size cut-out is required?

The plasterboard requires a 159mm wide by 73mm high rectangular cut-out. Mark and cut the aperture with a padsaw or drywall saw before inserting the box.

Is this suitable for metal-clad accessories?

No. This is a non-metallic PVC box certified to BS 5733 for use with standard plastic-backed switches and sockets. For metal-clad accessories a metal back box with earthing provision is required.

How are cables routed into the box?

Two 20mm knockouts at the rear provide cable entry points. Additional moulded channels at the top and bottom edges guide cables into position during installation. Cables can enter from above, below or directly from the rear depending on the stud wall cavity route.
