Description

The Knightsbridge 34mm round dry lining box is a white PVC housing designed for mounting downlights, smoke alarms and other electrical fittings into dry-lined cavity ceilings. The box has a 79mm outer diameter, a 34mm recessed depth and requires a 62mm cut-out in the plasterboard. Two 20mm knockouts at the rear allow cable entry from different angles depending on the routing.

Designed for residential and commercial installations where ceiling fittings need to be recessed into plasterboard backed by a cavity (typically 50-100mm air gap or insulation before the structural ceiling), the box provides fire containment and cable protection behind the visible fitting. The spring-loaded side tabs grip the rear face of the plasterboard when pushed through the 62mm hole, holding the box in place without additional fixings.

The white PVC construction is certified to BS 5733, the British Standard for general purpose electrical boxes and enclosures. The 34mm depth suits most LED downlights, GU10 fire-rated downlights and mains-powered smoke alarms that specify a shallow mounting depth. The box is supplied in shrink-sealed Knightsbridge multipacks.

Frequently Asked

What ceiling depth is required?

The box needs a minimum 34mm cavity depth between the plasterboard and the structural ceiling above. Most standard UK dry-lined ceilings provide 50-100mm cavity, so the 34mm box fits comfortably with room for cable routing and insulation clearance.

How is the box fitted?

Cut a 62mm hole in the plasterboard at the fitting location. Feed the cable through one of the rear knockouts, then push the box up through the hole from below. The spring-loaded side tabs will grip the back of the plasterboard and hold the box in place without screws or additional fixings.

What fittings does it suit?

The 34mm depth suits most LED downlights, GU10 fire-rated downlights and mains-powered smoke alarms. Check the specific fitting's required mounting depth before ordering — some larger halogen downlights or adjustable spotlights may need a deeper box.

Is it certified for fire protection?

The box is certified to BS 5733 for general electrical enclosures. For fire-rated ceiling assemblies, pair the box with fire-rated downlights that carry their own fire certification (typically 30, 60 or 90 minutes).
