32A 3P+N+E Angled Surface Mount Socket 415V - IP44 Red & White

The Knightsbridge IN0020 is a 32A 415V 3-phase+neutral+earth angled surface mount socket in a red polycarbonate body with a white mounting base. The IP44 rating provides protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for workshop, warehouse and outdoor covered installation where equipment needs protection from dust and weather exposure.

Designed for fixed installation on walls, machinery housings and distribution boards, the angled configuration orients the socket face at approximately 45 degrees from the mounting surface, reducing strain on cables when equipment is plugged in. The socket accepts standard 32A 415V 3P+N+E industrial plugs and is rated for continuous operation at full load. The PG21 cable gland accepts cables with outer diameters between 13-18mm, and a PG21 to M20 adaptor is included in the box.

The red body indicates the 415V voltage class under IEC 60309 industrial connector colour coding, where red denotes 380-415V 3-phase. The white mounting base is impact-resistant polycarbonate with two mounting holes positioned 55mm apart vertically. The socket measures 145mm high, 71mm wide and projects 102mm from the mounting surface when installed. Brass terminals inside the socket body accept solid or stranded copper conductors up to 6mm² cross-sectional area.

What does the IP44 rating mean in practice?

IP44 provides protection against solid objects larger than 1mm (dust, small tools, wire) and water splashes from any direction. The socket can be used outdoors under a covered area such as a canopy or overhang, but is not rated for direct exposure to heavy rain or submersion. It suits workshop and warehouse environments where occasional water contact may occur.

What cable size does the PG21 gland accept?

The PG21 cable gland accepts cables with outer diameters between 13mm and 18mm. A PG21 to M20 adaptor is included, which accepts cables between 10mm and 14mm outer diameter. The internal terminals accept conductors up to 6mm² cross-sectional area.

Why is the socket angled rather than straight?

The angled configuration orients the socket face at approximately 45 degrees from the mounting surface. This reduces cable strain when equipment is plugged in, particularly when the cable needs to drop vertically or run horizontally from the socket.
