Description

The Knightsbridge IN0013 is a 32A 2-pole+earth angled panel mount socket rated at 240V with IP44 ingress protection. The blue thermoplastic housing incorporates a hinged weatherproof cover that seals the outlet when not in use, protecting the internal contacts from dust and water splash in workshop, event and outdoor temporary installation environments.

Designed for mounting into metal enclosures, switchgear panels, and generator housings, the socket requires a panel cut-out and sits flush to the mounting surface with a 54mm recessed depth behind the panel. The angled body positions the outlet at approximately 45 degrees to the mounting face, allowing cables to exit downwards or sideways rather than straight out from the panel, which helps with cable management in confined enclosures and reduces strain on the plug connection.

The 32A rating handles loads up to 7.68kW on single-phase 240V circuits, making the socket suitable for industrial power tools, portable generators, event lighting rigs, and temporary site distribution. The blue colour follows IEC 60309 convention for 240V industrial sockets, distinguishing them visually from 110V yellow sockets in mixed-voltage installations. The IP44 rating provides protection against solid objects above 1mm and water splashing from any direction, but the socket is not submersible and should not be left uncovered in direct rain.

Frequently Asked

What panel thickness does this socket fit?

The socket mounts to panels typically between 1.5mm and 3mm thick. The 54mm recessed depth refers to the projection behind the panel face once installed. Check the datasheet for the exact panel cut-out dimensions required.

Is the IP44 rating maintained when a plug is connected?

IP44 protection is provided by the hinged cover when the socket is not in use. When a plug is inserted, the IP rating depends on the plug's own sealing — standard industrial plugs with cable glands maintain similar ingress protection when properly assembled.

Can this be used outdoors?

Yes, but only in sheltered locations where the socket is not exposed to direct rain or submersion. IP44 protects against splashing water but not continuous water jets or pooling. For fully exposed outdoor use, consider an IP67-rated socket with a screw-lock cover.

What cable size does the 32A rating require?

A 32A circuit on 240V typically requires 6mm² cable as a minimum, though the exact cable size depends on installation method, ambient temperature and cable run length. Consult BS 7671 wiring regulations or a qualified electrician for your specific installation.
