Description
The Knightsbridge EMPOWER4 is a 3.5W LED emergency downlight with an integrated self-test facility that performs automatic function checks at pre-programmed intervals. The fitting houses an integrated LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) battery rated for a minimum 3-hour emergency duration, delivering 130 lumens in both mains and emergency mode. A separate green LED charge indicator sits externally to show battery status without needing to access the fitting.
Designed for corridors, stairwells, circulation areas and rooms requiring maintained or non-maintained emergency lighting, the downlight operates in three modes: maintained (permanently on), non-maintained (off until mains failure), and switched (controlled by a switch in normal operation). The 45mm cut-out fits standard UK ceiling void depths with a minimum 80mm void required above the plaster line. A corridor lens accessory ships in the box, narrowing the beam for longer throw distances in hallway applications.
The polycarbonate housing and lens are finished in white and rated IP20 for dry internal environments. The pre-wired battery pack connects via a plug-in connector, removing the need to wire terminals during installation. The 3000K warm white LED provides CRI >70 colour rendering across a 140° beam angle. The fitting is Class II double-insulated, requiring no earth connection, and carries a 5-year warranty.

Frequently Asked
What does self-test mean?
The fitting performs automatic function and duration tests at pre-programmed intervals without manual intervention. Test results are indicated by the green LED charge indicator, which flashes different patterns to show pass or fail status.
What is the difference between maintained and non-maintained operation?
Maintained mode keeps the LED on continuously during normal mains supply and switches to battery power during a mains failure. Non-maintained mode keeps the LED off during normal operation and only illuminates when mains power fails. Both modes are selectable on this fitting.
What ceiling void depth is required?
A minimum 80mm void above the ceiling surface is required to accommodate the driver unit and battery pack. The recessed depth of the fitting itself is 32mm, but the external components need the additional clearance.
What is the corridor lens for?
The corridor lens narrows the beam pattern from the standard 140° spread to a longer, narrower throw suitable for hallway and corridor applications where light needs to travel further along the length of the space rather than spreading wide.
