Description

The Knightsbridge 29mm double back box is a surface-mounted housing for 2-gang sockets or switches, built from high-impact PVC with a white finish. The 29mm recessed depth provides internal clearance for dual wiring runs while the 32.2mm total projection from the wall keeps the unit compact enough for skirting-adjacent installations.

Designed for commercial and residential projects where wall chasing is not practical, the box includes trunking knockouts at the top, bottom and centre positions to accept both square and circular conduit systems. The knockouts are pre-scored for clean removal without needing to drill through the PVC. The internal width of 146.3mm accommodates standard 2-gang faceplate fixing centres and leaves room for cable bends behind the terminals.

The PVC construction resists splintering when drilled or cut during installation, and the white finish integrates with white sockets, switches and skirting boards without needing to be painted. The box complies with BS 4662 and carries a 25-year manufacturer guarantee. The fixing lugs are moulded into the back panel rather than screwed on, reducing the risk of breakage when tightening faceplates.

What's the difference between recessed depth and projection?

Recessed depth (29mm) is the internal clearance for wiring. Projection (32.2mm) is the total distance the box stands out from the wall, including the rim that the faceplate screws into.

Is this suitable for outdoor use?

No. The box has no IP rating and is designed for internal surface mounting only. For outdoor or wet-area installations, use a weatherproof IP-rated enclosure.

Can trunking be connected on all sides?

Yes. The box has pre-scored trunking knockouts at the top, bottom and centre positions, compatible with both square and circular conduit systems. The knockouts can be removed cleanly without drilling.

Does it work with screwless faceplates?

It depends on the faceplate system. Some screwless designs require a specific metal sub-frame that may not fit surface-mounted back boxes. Check the faceplate manufacturer's compatibility guidance before ordering.
