Description

The Knightsbridge SF8909AB is a 230V 20VA shaver socket with one USB-A and one USB-C charging port, housed behind an antique brass screwless faceplate with a black insert. The socket is certified to EN 61558 and carries an IP41 rating, protecting against solid objects above 1mm and vertically falling water droplets, making it suitable for bathroom zones 2 and 3 in UK installations.

Designed for bathroom installation alongside mirrors or vanity units, the socket provides a dedicated 230V shaver supply plus 5V DC charging for USB devices at a shared 2.4A output across both ports. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, giving a clean finish with no visible screws or fixings on the wall once installed. A built-in gasket sits between the faceplate and the wall to prevent moisture ingress behind the plate.

The antique brass finish is applied to 201 stainless steel, giving a warm bronze tone with darker patina in the recesses of the brushed surface. This pairs well with traditional brass tapware, aged brass towel rails, and warm-toned bathroom schemes. The faceplate projects 4.3mm from the wall, making it one of the slimmer profiles in the Knightsbridge range and reducing the risk of catches on towels or bathrobes in tight spaces.

What bathroom zones can this socket be installed in?

The IP41 rating allows installation in bathroom zones 2 and 3 — at least 600mm from a bath or shower edge. It cannot be installed in zones 0 or 1 (inside the bath/shower enclosure or directly above them). Always confirm zone classification with a qualified electrician before installation.

What is the USB charging output?

The socket provides 5V DC at a shared 2.4A output across both the USB-A and USB-C ports. If both ports are in use simultaneously, the total draw is limited to 2.4A combined, not 2.4A per port.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 47mm back box depth is required for safe installation. The socket sits 43.4mm into the box with 4.3mm projecting from the wall once the screwless cover plate is fitted.

Can this be used with 110V shavers?

No. This is a single-voltage 230V shaver socket only. It will not step down voltage for 110V shavers. Check your shaver's voltage rating before use — most modern shavers are dual-voltage (110-240V) and will work safely with this socket.
