Description

The Knightsbridge SF8909AT is a 230V shaver socket with dual USB charging ports (one USB-A, one USB-C) behind an anthracite screwless faceplate with a built-in gasket seal. The socket provides 230VAC 20VA output for electric shavers and toothbrushes, while the USB ports deliver 5V DC 2.4A shared output for charging phones, tablets and rechargeable grooming devices.

Designed for bathroom and ensuite installation, the socket carries an IP41 rating, providing protection against ingress of solid objects over 1mm and vertically falling water droplets. This makes it suitable for mounting outside bathroom zones (typically Zone 3 or outside zones entirely, depending on the room layout and local regulations). The built-in gasket seal behind the screwless cover plate adds an extra barrier against moisture penetration into the back box.

The anthracite finish is a dark charcoal grey metal that pairs with modern bathroom schemes using slate-effect tiles, matt black fittings and industrial-style fixtures. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, leaving no visible fixings on the wall once installed. The socket requires a 47mm minimum back box depth and projects just 4.3mm from the wall surface when fitted.

Can this be installed inside a bathroom shower zone?

No. The IP41 rating protects against solid objects and vertically falling drips, but it is not rated for direct spray or splashing. This socket must be installed outside bathroom zones (typically Zone 3 or further) as defined by BS 7671 wiring regulations. Consult a qualified electrician for zone-specific placement in your bathroom.

What's the USB charging output?

The socket provides 5V DC 2.4A shared output across both USB ports. This means the total output is 2.4A whether you're using one port or both. If charging two devices simultaneously, the current is split between them.

What back box depth is required?

A 47mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The recessed depth of the socket mechanism is 45mm, and the screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The anthracite cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting or tiling around the socket and re-clipped without disturbing the wiring.
