Description

The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang double pole switch with neon indicator provides isolation control for fixed appliances rated up to 4,600W on 230V supply, behind a polished brass screwless faceplate. The double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the switch is turned off, a requirement for certain fixed appliances including immersion heaters, electric ovens and some water heating systems.

The neon indicator glows red when the switch is in the on position, providing visual confirmation that power is flowing to the appliance. This is useful for appliances located in a different room or where the appliance itself has no visible power indicator. The switch is designed for controlling single fixed appliances rather than multiple outlets, with the 20A rating handling higher loads than standard 13A socket circuits.

The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, leaving no visible screws or fixings once installed. The polished brass finish gives a warm metallic accent that pairs well with traditional, classical and warm-toned contemporary interiors. The switch requires a 25mm minimum back box depth and projects just 4.3mm from the wall once fitted, sitting flush with most plasterwork and tiling.

Frequently Asked

What appliances need a 20A double pole switch?

Immersion heaters, electric ovens, some electric showers, and certain instantaneous water heaters require 20A-rated double pole isolation. Building regulations often specify double pole switching for appliances that draw high continuous loads or where the appliance is located away from the switch position.

What does the neon indicator show?

The neon glows red when the switch is in the on position and power is flowing to the appliance. This confirms the circuit is live without needing to check the appliance itself, which is particularly useful for immersion heaters and other appliances located in different rooms.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted, giving a total depth of approximately 29mm from the back of the box to the front of the plate.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting or tiling around the switch and re-clipped without re-wiring the appliance circuit.
