Description

The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang DP switch is a double-pole isolator designed for fixed appliances such as water heaters, immersion heaters, heat pumps and underfloor heating systems. The polished brass screwless faceplate sits flush to the wall with no visible fixings, giving a cleaner finish than traditional screw-fixed switches.

The 20A rating handles continuous loads up to 4,600W on 230V mains, making it suitable for high-draw appliances where a standard 10A switch would be under-rated. Double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the rocker is set to off, providing a full electrical disconnect rather than just breaking the live conductor. This makes the switch safe for servicing appliances without needing to isolate at the consumer unit.

The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame that fixes to the back box, so the polished brass faceplate can be removed for redecorating without re-wiring. The 25mm minimum back box depth accommodates standard UK mounting boxes, and the integrated gasket behind the cover plate reduces ingress of dust and moisture to IP20. The switch carries EN 60669-1 certification and is backed by a 25-year warranty.

The polished brass finish provides a warm metallic accent that works well in traditional, classical and warm-toned contemporary interiors. The matching brass rocker blends into the faceplate when off and catches light when tilted, maintaining visual consistency with other polished brass switches and sockets in the same room.

Frequently Asked

What appliances is a 20A switch used for?

A 20A switch is rated for fixed appliances that draw up to 4,600W on 230V mains. Common uses include water heaters, immersion heaters, underfloor heating systems, heat pumps and commercial kitchen equipment. It replaces the lower-rated 10A switches used for lighting circuits.

What does DP mean?

DP stands for double-pole. When the switch is off, it isolates both the live and neutral conductors, giving a full electrical disconnect. This is safer than single-pole switching for servicing appliances, as it removes all mains voltage rather than just breaking the live line.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the switch and re-clipped without re-wiring.
