Description
The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang double pole switch combines a neon indicator, flex outlet and polished brass ultra-flat plate in a single fitting designed for fixed appliances such as water heaters, immersion heaters and bathroom extractor fans. The double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when switched off, providing greater safety for high-draw appliances rated up to 4,600W on 230V supply.
Designed for residential and light commercial installation where fixed appliances need visible isolation, the switch features a red neon indicator above the rocker that glows when the circuit is live, giving instant confirmation of power status. The flex outlet below the rocker provides a clean exit point for appliance cable, eliminating the need for cable to loop back into the wall cavity or run externally across the faceplate. The 25mm minimum back box requirement allows installation in standard UK mounting boxes.
The polished brass finish is applied to premium-grade steel and maintains its warm metallic tone in typical indoor environments. The ultra-flat design projects only 2.5mm from the wall once fitted, sitting almost flush with the mounting surface. A built-in gasket between the plate and wall improves seal against dust ingress and minor moisture, contributing to the IP20 rating. The switch carries a 25-year warranty and is certified to EN 60669-1.

Frequently Asked
What appliances is the 20A rating suitable for?
The 20A rating handles fixed appliances up to 4,600W on 230V supply. Typical applications include water heaters, immersion heaters, bathroom extractor fans, underfloor heating controllers and fixed kitchen appliances. The double pole switching isolates both live and neutral when off, making it suitable for appliances that remain connected to supply continuously.
What does the neon indicator show?
The red neon indicator above the rocker glows when the circuit is live, regardless of switch position. This confirms power is available to the circuit. When the switch is flipped to the off position, the circuit is isolated but the neon will still glow if mains power is present at the switch terminals.
What is the flex outlet used for?
The flex outlet below the switch rocker provides a clean exit point for appliance cable, allowing the cable to pass through the faceplate rather than looping back into the wall cavity or running externally. This is common in installations where the appliance sits near the switch location.
Can the ultra-flat plate be fitted without a sub-frame?
The ultra-flat plate design mounts directly to the back box without a separate sub-frame. The plate screws directly to the lugs on a standard 25mm minimum depth back box and the built-in gasket seals against the wall surface.
