A pair of rockers sits on a flat screwless plate finished in strawberry, with chrome trim framing each one. Both gangs are intermediate, which is the version you want in the middle of a circuit where a single light is switched from more than two positions: the foot of the stairs, the top of the stairs and the landing door, say, or a kitchen with several ways in. There are no screw heads on the face, so it reads as a clean square of colour and metal.

We would reach for this where the switching is busier than usual: a hall with doors at both ends, a stairwell, a long landing, an open-plan room where you want the same light under control from wherever you happen to be standing. It suits anyone tired of white plastic on the wall and happy to let a switch carry a bit of colour. Keep it to the dry rooms of the house, since it is meant for domestic lighting circuits indoors.

The plate is moulded ABS, double insulated, and the inserts are chrome. The rockers have a definite click either way, which is much of the pleasure of a good switch. At 88mm square the face covers much the same ground as a standard plate, so it sits comfortably beside sockets and other switches already on the wall. For cleaning, a dry cloth is enough; keep kitchen sprays and polishes away from the coloured plate, as they can take the life out of the finish over time. It carries a ten year warranty. We think the strawberry looks best on a pale or plain wall, where the colour is allowed to be the bright thing at hand height.
