Description

Ice white, screwless and flat to the wall, with a chrome insert ringing the plug apertures and a neon window that shows at a glance when a side is switched on. It is a double socket: each side takes a standard 13A plug and carries its own rocker switch, while four USB-A ports are set into the plate for phones, tablets, speakers and rechargeable table lamps. Charging is shared between the ports on each side, so a phone and a set of earbuds can top up together without a separate charger cluttering the worktop.

We reach for this one at bedsides, on kitchen worktops and at desks, anywhere plug-in chargers keep taking the power point you wanted for a lamp or the kettle. With the USB ports built into the plate, both plug ways stay free for the things that actually need them, and the rockers let you cut power to either side independently. It is meant for indoor rooms running off an ordinary household supply: bedrooms, studies, sitting rooms and kitchens, well away from splashes and damp.

The plate is moulded ABS in ice white, with the chrome insert giving the front a little definition against emulsion, tiles or paper. For cleaning, switch the sockets off, then wipe the face with a dry or barely damp cloth; cream cleaners, solvents and scouring pads will dull the white and scratch the chrome trim. It carries a ten year warranty. We would keep the screwless flat plate running across the switches and sockets on the same wall, so the USB one does not read as an afterthought. Ice white sits comfortably with most white paints and with the standard plates already in place.
