Description
The Knightsbridge SHE2BEMS is an 18W outdoor LED bulkhead with integrated emergency lighting and a microwave motion sensor, housed in a 360mm die-cast aluminium body with a black powder-coat finish and an opal polycarbonate diffuser. The LED gear tray offers three selectable colour temperatures via onboard switches: 3000K warm white (1020lm), 4000K neutral white (1080lm), or 6000K cool white (1090lm). The emergency function provides maintained, non-maintained or switched operation, giving 105-120lm output during power cuts depending on the selected CCT.
Designed for external building entrances, car parks, loading bays, communal corridors and stairwells, the bulkhead carries an IP65 rating against dust and water ingress, making it suitable for fully exposed outdoor installation in all UK weather conditions. The microwave sensor detects motion through the diffuser and automatically switches the light on when movement is detected, then switches off after a preset delay, reducing energy consumption in areas with intermittent use. The eyelid hood design directs light downward and reduces upward light spill, helping to comply with dark-sky guidelines in sensitive locations.
The die-cast aluminium body is impact-resistant and classed as anti-vandal, making it suitable for public spaces and exposed commercial sites where tampering or accidental impact is a concern. The fitting weighs approximately 2kg and mounts to a standard wall or ceiling surface via rear fixings concealed behind the body. The opal diffuser spreads the 110° beam evenly across the illuminated area without visible LED hotspots. The L70B50 rating of 50,000 hours indicates the point at which 50% of a sample batch would have degraded to 70% of initial output, translating to approximately 11 years of continuous operation before significant lumen depreciation occurs.

Frequently Asked
What are the three CCT settings and how are they changed?
The bulkhead offers 3000K warm white (1020lm), 4000K neutral white (1080lm), and 6000K cool white (1090lm). The colour temperature is selected via onboard switches on the LED gear tray, accessible during installation. Once set, the colour temperature remains fixed until the fitting is opened and the switch position is changed.
How does the emergency function work?
The emergency mode can be configured as maintained (light on continuously, switching to battery during power cuts), non-maintained (light off until power cuts, then battery activates), or switched (mains-controlled normally, battery backup during cuts). In emergency mode the output drops to 105-120lm depending on CCT. The emergency battery is not covered by the 5-year warranty.
What is the microwave sensor detection range?
Microwave sensors typically detect motion through non-metallic materials at ranges of 8-12m depending on the size of the moving object and installation height. The exact detection range and time delay for this model are adjustable via controls on the sensor module, accessible during installation. Refer to the product manual in the Downloads tab for specific settings.
Is this suitable for coastal or high-salt environments?
The IP65 rating protects against water and dust ingress, and the die-cast aluminium body with powder-coat finish offers good corrosion resistance. However, in direct coastal exposure or high-salt environments, periodic inspection and cleaning is recommended to prevent salt build-up around seals and fixings.
