Description
The Knightsbridge Sherpa 18W LED bulkhead combines emergency backup lighting and a microwave motion sensor in a die-cast aluminium body with an opal polycarbonate diffuser. The CCT-adjustable gear tray switches between three colour temperatures (3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white, 6000K cool white) during installation, delivering 1680lm, 1790lm and 1810lm respectively at 18W constant current draw.
Designed for commercial, industrial and residential perimeters, car parks, loading bays, stairwells and building entrances, the bulkhead provides three emergency modes (maintained, non-maintained and switched) with 190-200lm emergency output during mains failure. The microwave sensor detects motion through the diffuser and triggers full-brightness illumination, cutting energy waste in low-traffic periods while maintaining security coverage. The IP65 rating seals the body against dust ingress and water jets from any direction.
The 360mm diameter gives wide-area illumination at 110-degree beam spread, suitable for mounting at 3-4m heights over walkways, entrances and car parking bays. The die-cast aluminium construction resists impact and vandalism in public-access areas, and the black powder-coated finish withstands UV exposure without fading. The opal diffuser softens the light output to reduce glare while maintaining high efficacy at 132.6 lumens per watt.
The bulkhead ships with the emergency battery and gear tray pre-installed. The diffuser is secured with visible fixings for field maintenance, and the CCT switch is accessed by removing the diffuser during installation. The L70B50 rating of 50,000 hours indicates that after 50,000 operating hours, at least 50% of a batch will still deliver at least 70% of initial lumen output.

Frequently Asked
How does the CCT switching work?
The gear tray inside the bulkhead has a physical switch accessible when the diffuser is removed. You set it to one of three positions during installation: 3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white, or 6000K cool white. Once set, the colour temperature is fixed until you open the fitting and change it again.
What are the three emergency modes?
Maintained mode keeps the emergency lamp on continuously, running from mains power and switching to battery during outages. Non-maintained mode only lights the emergency lamp during mains failure. Switched mode operates like maintained but allows the emergency lamp to be switched off when not needed.
How does the microwave sensor detect motion?
The microwave sensor emits a low-power radar field through the diffuser and detects changes caused by movement within its range. Unlike passive infrared sensors, it can detect motion through some non-metallic barriers and is less affected by temperature changes.
Is the emergency battery user-replaceable?
Yes. The battery is accessed by removing the diffuser and disconnecting the internal connector. The 5-year warranty excludes the battery, which is a consumable component with a typical service life of 3-4 years depending on cycling frequency.
