Description
The Knightsbridge Sherpa is an 18W LED bulkhead with a built-in emergency battery and microwave sensor, housed in a 360mm diameter die-cast aluminium body with an opal polycarbonate diffuser. The integrated sensor activates the light when motion is detected, reverting to standby after a set period, while the emergency function provides maintained or non-maintained backup lighting during mains failure.
Designed for parking areas, service yards, pathways and building perimeters where security lighting and emergency backup are both required, the bulkhead carries an IP65 rating for dust and water ingress protection. The microwave sensor detects motion through the diffuser without requiring an external PIR unit, simplifying installation and reducing visible hardware. The CCT-switchable gear tray allows the bulkhead to be set to 3000K, 4000K or 6000K at installation, delivering 1680lm, 1790lm or 1810lm respectively at full brightness.
The die-cast aluminium body is powder-coated grey and rated IK08 for impact resistance, making the fitting suitable for areas where vandal resistance is needed. The opal diffuser provides a 110° beam angle for wide-spread illumination without direct glare. The SMD LED module is rated for 50,000 hours to L70B50, and the driver operates on constant current at 230V 50Hz. The emergency battery provides 190-200lm output in emergency mode depending on CCT selection.

Frequently Asked
How does the microwave sensor work?
The microwave sensor detects motion through the diffuser using radar technology, activating the bulkhead when movement is detected and switching it off after a set period. The sensor does not require line-of-sight and can detect through the polycarbonate diffuser without an external PIR unit.
What colour temperature should I choose?
The CCT is selectable at installation via a switch on the gear tray. 3000K gives warm white light suitable for residential pathways and entrances, 4000K is neutral white suited to commercial and industrial applications, and 6000K is cool white often used in service yards and security lighting.
How does the emergency function operate?
The bulkhead can be wired for maintained, non-maintained or switched emergency operation. In maintained mode the fitting runs continuously on mains and switches to battery during power failure. In non-maintained mode the emergency light only activates during a mains outage. The emergency output is 190-200lm depending on CCT selection.
Is the bulkhead suitable for coastal environments?
The IP65 rating protects against water jets and dust ingress, and the die-cast aluminium body with powder-coat finish provides corrosion resistance. For long-term coastal exposure where salt spray is present, periodic inspection and cleaning of the diffuser seal is recommended to maintain the IP rating.
