Description
The Knightsbridge 16A appliance inlet is a fixed-position 240V power inlet with a blue 3-pin plug housing and white mounting base, designed for wall mounting in workshops, caravans, generators and commercial setups. The inlet carries an IP44 rating, protecting against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction, which allows installation in exposed outdoor locations and damp industrial environments.
Designed for permanent installation where equipment needs a reliable mains feed without trailing extension leads, the inlet suits generator hookups, mobile catering units requiring external power, caravan pitch connections, and workshop tool stations. The inlet accepts a standard IEC 60309 16A 240V plug (2P+E configuration) and provides a secure earth terminal connection. The white base includes two fixing holes for screw mounting to timber, masonry or metal surfaces.
The housing measures 122mm high by 71mm wide with a 74mm projection from the mounting surface once installed. The blue and white colour coding follows international standards for 240V single-phase industrial connectors, making the inlet immediately recognisable on site. The moulded thermoplastic casing resists impact and UV degradation, and the brass contact pins inside the blue plug housing maintain conductivity over repeated connection cycles.

Frequently Asked
What plug standard does this inlet accept?
The inlet accepts IEC 60309 240V 16A 2P+E plugs, which are the blue industrial standard for single-phase 240V connections. This is not compatible with standard 13A domestic UK plugs.
Can this be used outdoors?
Yes. The IP44 rating protects against water splashes and dust, making it suitable for outdoor installation in locations such as caravan pitches, generator housings and external workshop walls. It is not submersible or suitable for prolonged exposure to heavy rain without additional weatherproof cover.
How is it wired?
The inlet is wired from behind the mounting base to the mains supply or distribution board. The earth terminal must be connected. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with BS 7671 wiring regulations.
What thickness material can it mount to?
The white base has two screw fixing holes and mounts flush to timber, masonry, metal panel or plastic enclosure walls. The 74mm projection from the wall allows cable entry from behind the base.
