Description

The Knightsbridge IN0017 is a 16A 415V panel mount socket with a 3-phase + neutral + earth configuration, housed in a red angled enclosure rated to IP44. The angled outlet face positions the plug connection at approximately 45° to the mounting surface, directing cable runs downward or sideways rather than straight out from the panel, which reduces strain on the cable entry point and improves cable management in confined spaces.

Designed for industrial workshops, temporary power distribution boards, mobile event setups and machinery installations where 3-phase power is required, the socket installs into a panel cutout with a 40mm recessed depth. The IP44 rating provides protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashes from any direction, making the socket suitable for use in environments where dust, swarf and incidental water contact are present but where full weatherproofing is not required.

The red housing is a standard industrial colour code indicating 415V 3-phase, helping to differentiate this socket from lower-voltage single-phase outlets on the same installation. The socket body is injection-moulded from impact-resistant thermoplastic with brass terminals and a spring-loaded protective flap that covers the contact apertures when no plug is inserted. The overall footprint is 88mm high by 75mm wide, with a 76mm projection from the panel face once installed.

Frequently Asked

What panel thickness does the socket require?

The socket requires a 40mm recessed depth behind the panel face for installation. The panel material itself can vary in thickness, but the cutout must allow the rear housing to sit 40mm behind the mounting surface.

Is this suitable for outdoor use?

The IP44 rating provides protection against water splashes but not sustained rain or submersion. For outdoor installations the socket should be mounted under a cover, in a weatherproof enclosure, or in a sheltered position where direct rainfall cannot reach it.

What plug type is compatible?

The socket accepts a standard IEC 60309 16A 415V 3P+N+E industrial plug, recognisable by the red housing and five-pin configuration. These plugs are widely available and used across industrial equipment in the UK and Europe.

Why is the outlet angled?

The angled face directs the plug and cable away from the panel at approximately 45°, which reduces the space required in front of the panel and improves cable routing in tight installations such as control cabinets or mobile distribution boards.
