Description

The Knightsbridge IN003 is a 16A 2-pole + earth angled surface mount socket rated for 110V industrial applications, with an IP44 rating for protection against dust and water splashes. The socket body mounts directly to walls, machinery housings or temporary structures via two fixing holes on the white ABS base, with the yellow socket outlet angled 45° downward to keep plugged-in cables clear of overhead obstructions and improve cable management on congested site installations.

Designed for construction sites, factory floors, events infrastructure and outdoor temporary power distribution where 110V centre-tapped transformers are used for reduced shock risk, the socket accepts standard 16A 2P+E 110V industrial plugs (BS 4343/IEC 60309 yellow). The PG21 cable gland fitting on the base secures incoming cable with strain relief, preventing pullout under cable tension or accidental disconnection when equipment is moved. The IP44 rating allows use in covered outdoor locations and dusty environments, though the socket should not be exposed to direct water jets or submersion.

The two-pole configuration switches both live conductors, with a separate earth terminal providing continuous ground connection even when the socket is not energised. The yellow outlet portion is keyed to prevent insertion of incompatible plugs, while the high-visibility yellow and white colour scheme matches standard 110V site wiring convention across UK construction and hire industries. The socket measures 126mm height × 71mm width × 86mm depth once mounted, with the angled outlet reducing the effective forward projection when a plug is inserted compared to straight sockets.

Frequently Asked

What plug type does this socket accept?

The socket accepts standard 16A 2-pole + earth 110V industrial plugs conforming to BS 4343 or IEC 60309 (yellow-coded for 110V). The keyed outlet prevents insertion of plugs rated for other voltages.

Can this be used outdoors?

The IP44 rating provides protection against dust and water splashes, making it suitable for covered outdoor locations such as under canopies, in open-sided shelters, or temporary site cabins. It should not be exposed to direct rain, water jets or submersion.

What does the angled design improve?

The 45° downward angle of the outlet keeps plugged-in cables clear of overhead obstructions and reduces forward projection compared to straight sockets. This improves cable routing in tight spaces and reduces the risk of cables being snagged or accidentally pulled.

What cable size does the PG21 gland accept?

PG21 cable glands typically accept cable outer diameters of 13-18mm. The gland provides strain relief to prevent cable pullout and maintains the IP44 seal when correctly installed with appropriate cable.
