Description

The Knightsbridge BL12ALEDEM is a 14W IP54-rated LED bulkhead with integrated emergency backup, delivering 1300 lumens of 4000K cool white light through a 305mm diameter white polycarbonate diffuser. The emergency function operates in maintained, non-maintained or switched modes, providing 260 lumens of backup illumination for up to three hours during mains power failure.

Designed for commercial corridors, stairwells, car parks, covered outdoor walkways and residential hallways where emergency lighting is required by Building Regulations or site management, the IP54 rating protects against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction. The surface-mount design fixes directly to wall or ceiling surfaces using the integral back plate, with cable entry through a rear knockout.

The polycarbonate body and diffuser provide impact resistance and UV stability for long-term outdoor use under canopies and covered areas. The 110-degree beam angle gives wide-area coverage from a single fitting, reducing the number of units needed for corridor or walkway runs. The SMD LED module has an L70B50 lifespan of 30,000 hours at 111.95lm/W efficacy, and the fitting carries a three-year warranty excluding the emergency battery.

What emergency modes does the bulkhead support?

The fitting can be configured as maintained (always on, brighter on mains power), non-maintained (emergency mode only activates on power failure), or switched (controlled by external switch in normal operation). Configuration is set during installation via internal wiring connections.

How long does the emergency backup last?

The integrated battery provides 260 lumens for up to three hours during mains power failure. The battery recharges automatically when mains power is restored. Battery lifespan is typically 3-4 years depending on usage and ambient temperature.

Can it be used outdoors?

The IP54 rating protects against dust and water splashes, making it suitable for covered outdoor areas such as canopies, porches, covered walkways and car park ceilings. It should not be used in fully exposed locations subject to direct rain or heavy weather.

What mounting surface is required?

The bulkhead surface-mounts to any solid wall or ceiling. Cable entry is through a rear knockout in the back plate. The 84mm projection from the mounting surface should be considered when installing in low-headroom areas.
