Description

The Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur combines a double-pole isolating switch, a 13A fuse carrier, a neon indicator and a flex outlet behind a brushed chrome square edge faceplate. The unit provides switched isolation for fixed appliances such as boilers, kitchen extractors, water heaters and ventilation fans, with the flex outlet allowing hard-wired appliance cables to enter through the faceplate rather than requiring a separate grommet.

Designed for residential, hospitality and commercial installation, the fused spur fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and uses screw terminals rated for both mains supply and load connections. The neon indicator glows red when the switch is on, providing visual confirmation of live supply to the connected appliance without needing to check the appliance itself. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when off, giving full isolation for maintenance.

The brushed chrome finish on premium-grade steel provides a directional grain texture that softens reflections and pairs cleanly with modern, industrial and transitional interiors. The square edge profile sits flush against flat wall surfaces with a built-in gasket sealing against the back box to prevent draughts and dust ingress. The unit carries BS 1363-4 certification and an IP20 rating for standard indoor dry locations, with a 25-year warranty covering manufacturing defects.

Frequently Asked

What appliances is a fused spur used for?

Fused spurs provide permanent switched isolation for fixed appliances such as boilers, kitchen extractors, water heaters, ventilation fans, wall-mounted air conditioning units and electric towel rails. The 13A fuse protects the appliance circuit independently of the ring main.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The faceplate adds 10.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted.

What does the flex outlet do?

The flex outlet is a knockout aperture in the faceplate that allows the appliance cable to enter through the unit rather than requiring a separate cable grommet or surface-mounted trunking. This gives a cleaner finish when hard-wiring appliances.

Can the neon indicator be disabled?

The neon is wired directly into the switch mechanism to indicate live supply. It cannot be disabled without modifying the unit, which would void the warranty and BS 1363-4 certification.
